Apologies for those terrible donut puns, but, seriously- Downtown Chicago has a fantastic array of unique takes on fried dough that will make your taste buds applaud and light up your Instagram. Below are the locations closest to Best Western River North. Firecakes Donuts, 0.2 miles Firecakes has delicious donuts, and it's only a five-minute walk from BWRN. Their offerings range from the fancy—candied pepper bacon maple long john; the banana split—to traditional fare—honey glazed, buttermilk old fashioned, and classic jelly. Doughnut Vault, 0.4 miles Doughnut Vault is one of the premier purveyors of fried dough in the entire world. DV lore has been publicized far and wide, including such publications as Food Network, Forbes, Huffington Post, Eater, and Thrillist. DV is also one of the most Instagrammable locations in the entire city, with an antique Bohemian décor that looks like something from a Federico Fellini film. Stan's Donuts & Coffee, 0.5 miles In addition to a soothing vibe and color palette, Stan's has a diverse donut lineup that will leave most with indecision. However, if I had my druthers, I'd go with a half-dozen consisting of a Biscoff Pocket, Blueberry Bismark, Plain Old Fashioned, Glazed Pretzel, Apple Fritter, and a Red Velvet. What's your half-dozen look like? Do-Rite Donuts & Chicken, 0.7 miles Do-Rite has more traditional donut fare, but they do them, dare I say, better than everyone? The Old Fashioneds—buttermilk, cinnamon, and chocolate—are some of the best you can find on the planet. The Vanilla Bean Glazed is somehow plumper and fluffier than normal glazed donuts. If you are a donut aficionado, you have to try Do-Rite.
